cries over fictional children |
Hi, I'm Jessica. I like cartoons and RPGs. I draw things sometimes. Prepare your butts for excessive feels and multi-fandom tears. Personal text posts are usually tagged as #rumble ramble. |
look at how they’re shaking hands. randy’s using both hands, which is often a sign of someone who is a little too loving and a little too trusting. someone who loves getting and giving hugs freely.
that is just too cute for words and it hurts because we know he’s going to become a kidnapper who wants to force the screams out of children’s lungs for fun and profit.
dammit Pixar. you’re going to kill me.
JUST PREMIRE ALREADY YA DAMN MOVIE.
(sharkluvr123 found these pictures to all thanks to her)
I wouldn’t say that he’d later plan to extract screams for fun, but yeah, this definitely will be tragic for him somehow….
Tragic yes, but there is absolutely NO evidence in the original movie that Randall planned to “force the screams out of children’s lungs for fun and profit”. The only “kidnapping” he did was accidental, of MIKE. You are still thinking like most people, assuming that Randall should have seen human children as WE do, forgetting that he is part of a culture that fears humans, considers humans to be no more than un-evolved, dangerous, toxic, disgusting animals, whose only value lies in the fact that the screams of their offspring can be converted into electrical energy for the Monster World. Monsters, including Randall, have been taught this for generation after generation, and have had no reason to believe any differently. Randall, like all the other monsters, simply saw human children as a resource. To him, using a human child to test that machine was no different than one of our own scientists using a rat or Guinea pig to test something new. For him to take a human child for that purpose is no more “kidnapping”, from a monster perspective, than for a human to take a baby rat from its mother. People criticize Randall for what HE wanted to do to Boo, but totally ignore the FACT that MIKE wanted to A)throw her over the city with a giant catapult, B)abandon her “in the wild” to starve to death or die of starvation, C)shove her into a room of drunken Germans, and D) leave her in the factory for the CDA to find and KILL. Yes, KILL. The prevailing attitude about human kids was such that the official protocol upon finding one was to destroy it by any means necessary, without any remorse at all, and yet, WHY the hell is it that only Randall gets accused of being a “kidnapper” or of wanting to hurt children? Randall simply wanted to, in his own words, “revolutionize the Scaring industry”. He wanted to make energy more easily and readily and cheaply available for his world, for everyone, and yes, he wanted to be recognized and finally BE ACCEPTED by his peers for having done something good. There is no indication that he considered this to be “fun” anymore than Sulley considered it fun to scare the shit out of thousands of children before HE realized that they were sapient beings, like himself, something that Randall never got the opportunity to realize. Randall was simply trying to overcome years and years of rejection and ridicule and failure, and the only ethical/legal considerations from a monster perception had to do with the widespread belief that human children presented a horrible threat to their world. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with any sympathy for human kids! Let’s not forget that Randall WAS just following orders…orders from someone who would not hesitate to destroy anyone who crossed him or got in his way, someone whom Randall saw as a combination tyrant/father figure, someone who was deliberately manipulating both Randall AND Sulley and playing them against one another, knowing fully well that Randall suffered from a deep inferiority complex and could not handle that kind of pressure, but just as people are so quick to forget how Mike wanted to get rid of Boo or what the CDA would have done to her, they easily forget/overlook Waternoose’s role. Only Randall gets stuck with the label of “kidnapper” or “evil” or accused of being involved only for profit or some cruel sense of fun. Why the hell IS that?
(i’m a little sleepy so hopefully my rebuttal makes sense, if not i’m sorry)
I often use the term “fun and profit” saracastically to refer to an action that I disagree with. I don’t think he did it literally for fun, heck no. but do I think he was in the right with what he did? double heck no.
maybe he saw boo as nothing more than a rat to be tested on, but does no one ever stop and look at the rat and think “i’m testing on a sentient being, sure its ugly and probably disease ridden, but it’s obviously reacting to pain and fear, maybe I should stop.” because he didn’t. and he was enjoying it.
randall is not an innocent victim in this matter. he could’ve stopped at any time. he could’ve said to himself “hey, I’ve got a lot a bitterness built up, maybe I should try and get some outside help instead of taking it out on my co-workers.” he could’ve stood up to waternoose and said, “look, I apologize, but i’m not very comfortable with all of this, so i’m just going to go back to work.” he could’ve just forgiven the past and focused on the future; yes, this is insanely hard to do, but he’s smart and he’s perseverant, he could’ve done it.
but he didn’t. that’s why (I think) he’s considered to be the villain.
also, he tried to commit murder. at least twice. once by strangling his victim and once by pretty much kicking them until they fell to their messy death. that’s a line that should not be crossed or even approached.
and i’m speaking as someone who would very much enjoy having sex with him.
Oh my God, I can’t believe PBL is STILL on about this. Like. Literally, she’s been using the same arguments and excuses for years now and is pretty infamous for ranting at people who don’t see Randall the way she does.
I’m just gonna say I totally agree with you, Angel. Bad people have reasons for doing what they do just as much as the heroes do. It does not make them innocent or poor abused woobies who are just MISUNDERSTOOD. The minute you start hurting others to get your way is when you stop being innocent and start being the bad guy.
Randall’s a fandom stud? Who knew.
